Management and shareholders
Martin Hermatschweiler is co-founder and managing partner of Nanoscribe GmbH, ever since the company was founded in 2007. His main task as CEO is the company's positive development, particularly through the development of new markets. He studied physics in Ulm and Karlsruhe and graduated with honors. His scientific expertise lies in laser patterning of polymers as well as in their casting into high refractive index optical materials. In 2015, he has been listed among the TOP 40 entrepreneurs within Germany younger than 40 years by the journal "Capital", the so-called "young elite".
Dr. Michael Thiel is co-founder, authorized officer and Chief Science Officer (CSO) of the company. His focus lies on the development of technical innovations in research and development. After studying physics and attending the National Institute of Standards and Technology in the U.S., he earned his PhD at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) in the subject field of 3D laser lithography. For his work he received the KIT PhD Award in 2011. Michael Thiel is INSEAD alumnus since 2015. In 2016, he was chosen to be one of Germany's best innovators under 35. The same year he received the European CTO of the year 2016 award.
Prof. Dr. Georg von Freymann is co-founder of the company and as Chief Technical Officer (CTO) he was responsible for the product development of the Photonic Professional platform. Now he is Professor for Experimental Physics / Technical Physics at the Technical University of Kaiserslautern and head of the department "Materials Characterization and Testing" at the Fraunhofer Institute for Industrial Mathematics (ITWM) in Kaiserslautern. His research focuses on the areas of optical technology and photonics.
Prof. Dr. Martin Wegener is co-founder and initiator of the company. He is Professor at the Institute of Applied Physics at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) and director of the Institute of Nanotechnology at KIT. His multitude of honors and awards include, inter alia, the Prize for Young University Teachers awarded by the Alfried Krupp von Bohlen und Halbach-Stiftung in 1993, the DFG Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Prize in 2000 and the Carl Zeiss Research Award in 2006. He is a Fellow of the Optical Society of America (OSA) and a Fellow of the Hector Foundation since 2008.
Dr. Ulrich Simon is Senior Vice President Corporate Research and Technology of Carl Zeiss AG and our current mentor. ZEISS has supported Nanoscribe from the very beginning with technology and consulting and also made a major financial contribution through the acquisition of shares in September 2008.
